The Restoration of the 1955 Briggs 5S with Recoil Start
This was the beginning. No compression, but it does turn over. A bit too easily.
All torn down and ready for paint. Found the reason for no compression, the connecting rod was broken.
It's all painted ready for assembly. Still waiting on the new rod.
I built this oak stand while waiting on the new parts.
New parts arrived. I made all the gaskets except for the head gasket and intake gaskets.
Cylinder honed just to break the glaze and clean it up.
Connecting Rod installed and locked, and Valves installed.
Magneto Plate assembled and points set.
Flywheel, tank and carb mounted. End play of crankshaft was checked.
FINISHED!
