Lathe Modifications

The first mod requirement was to replace the feeble 2 bolt compound clamp with something stronger and more rigid.

The picture above shows the original clamp plate.

I found a very good plan for making a 4 bolt clamp on Steve Bedair's 9 X 20 Web Site 

The following pictures show the steps in making it.  Steve's site gives the dimensions and how-to. 

              

A piece of 1/2" flat stock is drilled for a 3/8 bolt and chucked up in the 3 jaw for turning the raised fit on the first side.

               

After turning the first side, it was flipped over and chucked on the raised fit.  The bore work was turned and it was about done.

               

Following Steve's specs it was all done except for the 4 mounting holes.

               

With the holes drilled it was a simple installation.  Great Improvement!
